Polygonal Blender

The polygonal blender is designed for solid-solid mixing of particulate matter. The properties of the ingredients dominate the mixing characteristics of the unit of which the following are very pertinent:

  1. Particle size distribution
  2. Bulk density
  3. Particle shape
  4. Surface characteristics
  5. Flow characteristics
  6. Friability

Of the above, the particle size distribution, the particle shape and the flow characteristics become very important in the operation of this unit. ‘the angle of repose” which is of direct relation with the flow characteristics of the particulate matter decide the size and shape of the tumbler blender to be constructed.
The polygonal blender is a batch mixing unit. The shape and number of flat faces induce motions which increase the mobility of the individual particles and promote diffusive mixing. The opposing segregating effects help the mixing over the time of operation, and lead to a high degree of homogenity. The mixing occurs when particles are distributed over freshly developed surfaces and when individual particles are given increased internal mobility.

The polygonal blender is basically a ‘tumbler mixer” capable of gentle blending for handling large volumes, easily cleaned, suitable even for dense and abrasive materials.

The blender is mounted across corners horizontally. The blender angles are chosen to achieve thorough blending in the best possible manner. This blender has the unique distinction of being symmetrical with respect to x, y, and z axis.

The blender is constructed out of 304/316 quality stainless steel with special stiffeners at the end where the stub shafts are attached. The stub shafts are removable and are of bolted construction. The stub shaft flanges are of tongue and groove type which enable automatic aligning of the blender.

The blender is mounted with self-aligning ball bearing on the tail end and rigid ball bearing on the drive side. The drive side stub shaft is rigidly coupled to/or chain driven by the output shaft of the heavy duty worm reduction gear box which in turn is driven by an electric motor through non-static “v” belts. The entire blender assembly is mounted on a rigid structural frame-work which should be firmly anchored to the ground, before the blender is put into operation.

ALL CONTACT PARTS ARE MADE OF SS 304/SS 316 MATERIAL.
Polygonal blenders are available in various capacities ranging from 750 litres to 2500 litres.

Polygonal blenders with liquid spraying facility for specific applications are also available at request.
